Quick Grant and Faculty Travel Submission Guidelines - (Closed Until July 1, 2010)
Requests should be submitted online using the ORED onCampus Channel. Faculty will need to add the onCampus channel to make requests. Adding the channel is a one-time process. Please follow the instructions below to add the channel and to submit your request. Approvers (Department Heads, Deans and Directors) should follow the Workflow approval instructions below. We do understand that there may be some difficulties getting up and running and accustomed to the new process. If you have any questions, please call Sandy Williamson at 5-3573 or email her at sandy@research.msstate.edu. She will be available to provide phone support or training in person.

Research Initiation Program
The Small Grants Program is designed to afford new faculty members an opportunity to initiate an activity that can be expended in scope and ultimately funded through an external-sponsoring agency. Permanent, tenure-track faculty of Mississippi State University for two years or less are eligible to apply. Funding is for $10,000 or less. Transfers are made to a new designated fund in the department for each award. These programs are for one year periods with unused funds returning to the Office of Research and Economic Development at the end of the one year period.
Summer Research Program
The Summer Research Program is for faculty members selected by a federal agency to participate in a formal research program. ORED provides half of the difference between the salary of the faculty member and the agency stipend for the appointment period if the department or college provides the remaining half. Submission of requests for the Summer Research Program should be done via electronic mail and sent to Ms. Sandy Williamson (sandy@research.msstate.edu). All requests must include: 1) Rationale for your request and 2) Amount of funding requested. Department Heads and Deans can simply forward faculty requests to the Office of Research and Economic Development along with their approval.
Humanities and Arts Research Program
ORED currently provides $20,000 annually to the College of Arts and Sciences to provide small grants for faculty members in the humanities and arts. Instructions for applying are located at: http://www.msstate.edu/dept/IH/harpgrants.html.
Subscribe to Grants.gov
Faculty members can subscribe to an email list on Grants.Gov to receive direct email notes when grant opportunities become available. There is no charge to sign-up for this service, and it only takes about 10 minutes to complete the process. If you would like to do this, please start by going to www.grants.gov. On the right hand side of the Grants.Gov main page, click on the link which says "Grant Email Alerts". The next screen will show several options - click on the "Notices Based on Advanced Criteria" link in the middle of the page. You can then choose which of the different topical areas you would like to receive email notices on. Once you are done with your selections, submit the information, and you should start receiving notices immediately.
