April 11, 2022
5:00 am to 9:00 am

About this event

Many of MSU's research centers and institutes are housed in the Thad Cochran Research Park and in other off-campus locations, including downtown and near the Starkville airport. On Monday, April 11th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., several research centers will be open for tours, visits, and conversation. Find a friend and come on out to learn more about MSU's research centers and institutes, including:

Research Curriculum Unit: Visitors touring the RCU will walk through some of the RCU and understand the various educational services we provide in the state of Mississippi. We will use an educational strategy while walking to teach others about the RCU. RCU contributes to Mississippi State University's mission as a land-grant institution to better the lives of Mississippians with a focus on improving education. In particular, the RCU benefits K-12 and higher education by developing curricula and assessments, providing training, and learning opportunities for educators, researching, and evaluating programs, supporting and promoting career and technical education, and leading education innovations. www.rcu.msstate.edu/

The Center for Cyber Education: The Center for Cyber Education (CCE) is currently housed inside the Research and Curriculum Unit where visitors can see information regarding the K-12 computer science initiative in Mississippi and experience hands-on coding and robotic activities. The mission of the Center for Cyber Education (CCE) is to ensure all students in Mississippi have access to quality cyber education instruction from elementary through high school. Ultimately, this encompasses topics across the technology spectrum—including programming, cybersecurity, robotics, data science, and artificial intelligence—as well as the quantitative, technological, and sociological implications of each. The CCE also promotes teaching foundational concepts, including computational thinking, effective and appropriate uses of technology, digital forensics, and digital ethics across the K-12 curriculum. www.rcu.msstate.edu/CyberEducation.aspx

The Office of Laboratory Animal Resources: The Office of Laboratory Animal Resources will celebrate Biomedical Research Awareness Day at the Wise Center with a table filled with information about the critical role animals play in medical advances and treatments, along with fun giveaways and activities. The Office of Laboratory Animal Resources provides veterinary care and animal husbandry resources for all animals required in biomedical research, teaching, and testing programs at Mississippi State University.  From nutritional studies optimizing selenium intake, to infectious disease research and determining the effects of environmentally relevant chemicals, research at Mississippi State can provide meaningful impact on the lives of people throughout the world.  Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD) is an international outreach program through “Americans for Medical Progress” that seeks to increase public awareness about animal roles in biomedical research and the resulting medical advancements that benefit both humans and animals.  Join the Worldwide #BRADglobal initiative supporting the critical need for animals in medical research. www.lar.msstate.edu; www.bradglobal.org/

The Global Center for Aquatic Health and Food Security: Come visit the Wise Center to visit a booth with information and activities showcasing the international and domestic Global Center for Aquatic Health and Food Security programs. GCAHFS aims to reduce world hunger through research that supports sustainable aquaculture and ecological health of aquatic resources. The GCAHFS also works to protect and manage health of aquatic animals, including marine mammals and endangered species, such as dolphins and sea turtles. The Center supports both domestic and international projects in a wide range of natural and social science areas. The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish is housed within the GCAHFS. More information about the Center can be found at www.gcahfs.msstate.edu.
